Online Play & Squad Rules
Effective date: 5 October 2026 · Version 1.2
These rules apply when you play Rebellion with other people. They supplement the Acceptable Use Policy — which applies in full — and the End User Licence Agreement.
We write these documents in good faith and keep them accurate to how the game actually works. They have not yet been reviewed by qualified Estonian legal counsel.
1. How co-op works
- A squad is made of friends. A friend is someone you follow on APERTURESyndicate who follows you back. Only a friend can be invited, and an invitation lasts two minutes. From the lobby, a squad is currently two people — the host and a guest they invite; a squad of three or four is possible only over a local network for now.
- "In game". While you are signed in and the game is open, your friends see in the squad list that you are in Rebellion.
- The world lives with the host. The host runs the world; what travels over the network is the players' input and commands, not copies of the world. The host decides who comes into their world, according to the squad. A guest in a fresh world, where no floor has been cleared yet, gets the starting kit; in a world with cleared floors, they join empty-handed; someone who arrives mid-floor waits until the squad returns to town.
- The relay. Players do not connect to each other directly but through our relay behind Cloudflare, so squad members do not see each other's IP addresses. The relay checks the account sign-in and forwards messages; it does not inspect or store what is inside them. Over a local network the computers connect directly and see each other's addresses.
- One version for everyone. The game checks every participant's version and balance files; a modified or outdated build will not get into a squad.

2. What is prohibited
Cheats and interference
In co-op you may not:
- use cheats, trainers, memory or packet editors, or forge or alter the game's messages;
- deliberately crash, freeze or desynchronise someone else's session;
- bypass the version check, the account sign-in or the relay's limits, or impersonate another player;
- play with a bot or script in someone else's squad without its members' consent.
What you do in your own single-player game we do not check or punish — as long as it does not breach the End User Licence Agreement (for example, by handing out modified builds).
Exploits
Found a bug that gives an advantage, spoils the game for others or puts load on our servers? Report it to [email protected]. Using it to ruin a squad's game or to harm our servers is not allowed. We close such bugs in updates.
The relay
The relay is for Rebellion only. You may not push other data through it, scan it or overload it, or guess rooms and tokens. It has limits: up to four players per room, up to three connections per account, and caps on message size and rate. Whoever exceeds them is disconnected. Joining again with the same account replaces the previous connection; when the server restarts, rooms are closed.
Behaviour in a squad
A squad is a game with friends. Do not spoil it on purpose: do not waste shared resources out of spite or wreck a run by quitting at a key moment deliberately. Harassment, threats, hate and exposing other people's personal data are prohibited anywhere you can show something to others — Section 3 of the Acceptable Use Policy.
3. Nicknames and village names
Rebellion has two kinds of user content, and your squad sees both:
- the nickname and avatar of your APERTURESyndicate profile — squad members and friends in the list see them;
- the village name the host gives their village — up to 24 characters: letters, digits, spaces, hyphens and apostrophes. It is stored in the host's files and shown to everyone who enters their world.

They must not contain insults or harassment, hate speech, threats, sexual content, anything that sexualises minors, other people's personal data, impersonation of another person or of us, other people's trademarks used to deceive, advertising or links, or unlawful content.
4. How we moderate
We do not watch squads. There is no chat in the game, and we neither see nor store what happens in a session or what someone's village is called. We act on reports, as described in Section 10 of the Terms of Service.
How to report. The form at https://report.aperturesyndicate.com — no account needed — or an email to [email protected] with the subject "Illegal content". Give the player's nickname, what happened and when, and a screenshot if you can. We confirm receipt within 72 hours.
What we can do. A person makes the decision. Depending on how serious and repeated the problem is, we may ask for a nickname to be changed, remove profile content, restrict features, or suspend or close the account. Without an account you cannot form a squad, enter the relay or play Resonance music in the game. You will receive a statement of reasons and can appeal the decision for at least 6 months — by replying to the notice or writing to [email protected] with the subject "Appeal" (Sections 10–11 of the Terms of Service).
A desync is not a violation in itself. Every two seconds the game compares the state of the world on the host and the guest; on a mismatch the guest sees a message and the host receives a report. Most often the cause is a glitch or a bug; repeated desyncs from one player can be a sign of a modified build. We act only on deliberate interference.
5. Protecting yourself
- Do not accept an invitation — and you will not be in the squad.
- You can leave a squad at any moment.
- Unfollow someone — the follow is no longer mutual, and they can no longer invite you.
- The host decides who comes into their world.
6. Availability
Online features are provided "as available", with no uptime guarantee. We may change how squads are formed, the limits and the relay itself, switch network play off temporarily, and end it (Section 5 of the End User Licence Agreement).
