Friends, Invites & Presence

Effective date: 9 October 2026 · Version 1.0

Apeiron shows which of your friends are online and what they are doing, and lets you invite them into a game. This page says exactly what is shared and how to control it. It supplements the Apeiron Privacy Notice and the Acceptable Use Policy.

We write these documents in good faith and keep them accurate to how the software actually works. They have not yet been reviewed by qualified Estonian legal counsel.

1. Who is a "friend"

A friend is a person you follow who also follows you back on APERTURESyndicate. Friends are managed on your profile, not inside the Launcher — the "add friends" button opens the website. You need an account and to be signed in.

2. What friends can see

Every minute, while you are signed in and the Launcher runs, it tells our servers what you are doing, and your friends see it in their list and on their overlay:

StateWhat friends see
Launcher open"Online"
Playing a game from your library (including a Steam game)"Online" and the name of the game, and how long you have been in it
Using another APERTURESyndicate app that reports presenceWhat that app reports — for example the track you listen to in Resonance, if you allow it there

You can hide the game name: Settings → General → "Show what I play to friends". With it off, friends only see that you are online.

When the Launcher closes, your presence expires on its own within about a minute and a half. Your friends do not see your library, how long you have played in total, or which programs you use.

3. Notifications about friends

The Launcher can show a small notice when a friend comes online or starts a game. These are your own settings (Settings → Notifications) and affect only what you see, not what you share. "Quiet in game" holds notices back while a game is in front of you.

4. Invitations

You can invite a friend into a game that supports it. The invitation:

  • is sent to that friend only and expires on its own within two minutes;
  • shows your nickname and avatar and the game's name;
  • can be accepted, declined or ignored; when accepted, you play together — for some games through our relay servers, which carry the game traffic between you and do not keep it (see the game's own privacy notice, for example Rebellion Privacy Notice).

Do not send invitations to people who have not agreed to hear from you; the Acceptable Use Policy applies, and we may limit the feature for abuse.

5. Turning it all off

  • Hide the game name: Settings → General.
  • Stop friend notices: Settings → Notifications.
  • Not appear at all: sign out. Presence is only sent while you are signed in.
  • Remove a person from your friends: unfollow them on the website.
