Apeiron Privacy Notice
Effective date: 9 October 2026 · Version 1.0
This notice explains how Apeiron (the "Launcher") handles personal data. The controller is APERTURESyndicate OÜ (registry code 17384111), Priisle tee 8, Lasnamäe linnaosa, Tallinn, Harju maakond, 13914, Estonia. It supplements the platform Privacy Policy and the GDPR & Your Data page; where they conflict, the platform-wide documents control.
We write these documents in good faith and keep them accurate to how the software actually works. They have not yet been reviewed by qualified Estonian legal counsel.
1. The short version
- No usage telemetry. The Launcher does not report what you launch, how long you play, or what is installed on your computer, and has no analytics or advertising component.
- Your library is local. The list of games and programs, play time, artwork and settings are files in your user profile.
- What does leave your computer is limited to the cases below, and each has a switch or needs you to be signed in.
2. What the Launcher reads on your computer
To build the library it reads, locally:
- Steam: the list of Steam library folders and the game manifests in them, and Steam's local artwork cache;
- Epic Games Store: its local install manifests;
- GOG: the install records in the Windows registry;
- our detection catalogue: a list of known applications' file names and usual install paths, checked against your disks;
- the Windows list of installed programs — only when you press "Scan" so that it can suggest programs to add; nothing from that list is added by itself;
- the files of games and programs you add, to read an icon from the program file.
It reads install records and paths. It does not read your documents or the contents of the programs it finds. While a game or program from your library is running, the Launcher notes that it runs and for how long — that is the play time you see, and it stays on your computer.
3. What is stored on your computer
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| Library, settings, play time, artwork cache | %LOCALAPPDATA%\APERTURESyndicate\Apeiron\ (or the folder you chose at setup) |
| Products you install | The library folder you choose; default under %LOCALAPPDATA%\APERTURESyndicate\ |
| Clips | The clips folder in Settings (default in your Videos folder) |
| Sign-in tokens | Windows Credential Manager, not a plain file |
| Entry in "Installed apps", shortcuts, start with Windows | Your user registry hive (HKCU) and Start menu |
| A local key for games | sdk.synx in the data folder — see Section 7 |
Uninstalling asks whether to remove products and the data folder; tokens, shortcuts and the startup entry are always removed.
4. What reaches our servers
| When | What | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Always (store, install, update) | Ordinary web requests for catalogue, artwork, release and update files — your IP address, time, requested file | To serve the file. The file names show which product you look at or download |
| Signed in | Your access token and your account's public details (nickname, avatar) | Sign-in through your browser (OAuth with PKCE); the Launcher never sees your password |
| Signed in, every minute | Your activity: "online", or the name of the game you play | So friends can see it — Friends, Invites & Presence. You can switch the game name off in Settings → General |
| Signed in | Your friends, invitations and notifications are fetched | To show them. Fetching is not publishing anything about you |
| Signed in, when you act | Invitations you send and answer; ratings and reviews you post | The feature you used |
| Signed in | Your star balance and account details on the account page | To show them |
Where the data lives and for how long is covered in Data Retention and the Sub-processor list. Presence is kept only while it is current and expires within about a minute and a half of the Launcher closing.
5. What reaches Steam and other third parties
- Artwork for games that are not from Steam (Epic, GOG, ones you add): the Launcher searches the public Steam store by the game's name and downloads the cover from Steam's content network. Only the name travels, and Steam sees it like any visitor's search. Switch it off in Settings → Library ("Look up covers online").
- The encoder for clips (FFmpeg) is downloaded from our storage.
- Nothing is sent to advertisers or data brokers.
6. Who sees what
Friends see what Section 4 says you publish — and only people you are connected with as friends. Reviews are visible to everyone who opens the store page, under your nickname (never your internal handle or email). Other store visitors do not see your library or play time.
7. Games and the local protocol
A game launched by Apeiron may talk to the Launcher through a connection that
exists only on your own computer (127.0.0.1), protected by a one-time key
that only that game receives. Through it the game can ask for your sign-in (so you
do not log in twice), set your presence, invite friends and open the overlay.
Another program on your computer, or a web page, cannot use it without the key.
The game receives the same sign-in token the Launcher holds; that is what lets it
act as you in our services, so only run games you trust.
8. Your rights and choices
You can: sign out (tokens are deleted); switch off game-name sharing; switch off online cover lookup; turn off the overlay and clips; stop automatic updates; delete a review; delete your account and data — see Deleting Your Account & Data. Your GDPR rights — access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, objection — and how to use them are in GDPR & Your Data; write to [email protected] with the subject "GDPR request".
9. Children
You must meet the minimum age in the Terms of Service (13, and the digital age of consent where your country sets one higher) to use account features. The local library works without an account.
