Getting the Game & Updates
Effective date: 5 October 2026 · Version 1.2
This document covers where Rebellion comes from, why it is free, what would apply to paid cosmetics and how the game updates. It supplements the ASInstaller Terms, the Terms of Service and Refunds & Cancellation.
We write these documents in good faith and keep them accurate to how the game actually works. They have not yet been reviewed by qualified Estonian legal counsel.
1. Where the game comes from
Rebellion is distributed only by us. For now we hand it out ourselves, directly, in two forms:
- the
RebellionSetupinstaller, carrying our digital signature — you can check it in the file's properties, on the "Digital Signatures" tab; - a zip archive of the same build, for those who do not want an installer.
The game is not in ASInstaller's store yet, nor on Steam, GOG, the Epic Games Store or any other store; we do not sell keys and do not hand out builds through intermediaries. We cannot check a copy from any other source: it could contain anything. Do not run such builds. Redistributing the game is prohibited by the End User Licence Agreement.
What the installer does:
- it runs without administrator rights and installs the game in your profile —
%LOCALAPPDATA%\APERTURESyndicate\Rebellion\, next to our other apps; - it creates a shortcut in "Start → APERTURESyndicate" and an entry in Windows' "Add or remove programs";
- it asks you to tick your agreement to the End User Licence Agreement — without that tick, installation does not start.
LICENSE.txt and THIRD-PARTY-NOTICES.txt sit next to the game — the game's
licence and the notices for third-party components; the same is inside the game
under Settings → "Game" → "Licences"
(Third-Party Licences & Marks).
2. The game is free
Rebellion is a free game. There is currently nothing in it to buy for money: the in-game currency — souls — is earned only by playing, and it cannot be bought, cashed out or exchanged for money. The "Shop" item in the game's menu does not work yet and is marked "Soon".
3. If paid cosmetics appear
In the future we may add paid cosmetic items — looks, skins, effects — to support development. One thing is already decided: nothing that affects strength will be sold for money — not souls, weapons, abilities or any advantage in combat. Cosmetics change only how the game looks.
If cosmetics appear, their terms will be published in this document and on the checkout page before the first sale. They will rest on the following:
- a cosmetic item is a licence to use it in the game, not a thing you own; it has no monetary value and cannot be cashed out, sold, exchanged for money or transferred outside the game;
- the price, how you pay and exactly what you receive will be shown before you pay;
- payment, your right to withdraw and refunds follow the general billing rules: Sections 12–13 of the Terms of Service and Refunds & Cancellation.
Until those terms exist, we take no money for Rebellion or anything in it.
4. Refunds
You have paid nothing, so there is nothing to refund. Once paid items exist, the general rules apply: 14 days to withdraw from the contract and refunds under Refunds & Cancellation.
5. Updates
While the game is handed out directly, a new version comes as a new installer (or archive): install it over the old version. Your saves live in a separate folder and are not touched. If the game appears in ASInstaller's store, ASInstaller will be able to update it — under the ASInstaller Terms.
Rebellion is in active development, so updates may:
- add and change content, weapons, enemies, bosses and balance;
- remove or temporarily close modes and features;
- change the save format.
Network play requires the same version. The game checks every participant's version and balance files; with an older version you cannot join someone else's squad — update first.
6. Updates and saves
We try to keep saves working across updates, but during development that is not always possible. If a run save does not fit the new version, the game marks it as damaged and does not offer to continue it; it never deletes the save silently — when you start a new run, the damaged file is set aside next to it. Your village, bestiary and settings are stored separately from the run. Details are in Saves, Progress & Support.
7. Uninstalling
Uninstall Rebellion through Windows' "Add or remove programs" (the zip version —
by deleting its folder). Uninstalling the game does not erase your data: saves,
your village, settings, your own music, logs and the sign-in token live
separately, in %LOCALAPPDATA%\APERTURESyndicate\Rebellion Saves\, and the engine
caches in %APPDATA%\APERTURESyndicate\Rebellion\. Data from early versions, if
any, is in %APPDATA%\Godot\app_userdata\Rebellion\. Delete these folders by hand
if you no longer need them. Sign out in the game first — that removes the stored
sign-in.
8. If we stop distributing the game
We may stop distributing Rebellion or particular versions of it, and switch off online features. An installed copy and single-player will keep working as far as that depends on your computer. If you have bought cosmetic items by then, Section 11 of the Terms of Service (a refund for what you paid for but will not receive) and Section 14 (a material reduction of what you paid for) apply.

Version history
- v1.2 — 2026-10-05 — The game is handed out directly as a signed installer and a zip archive rather than through ASInstaller's store: what the installer does, how to update, and where to look when uninstalling — the new data folder is separate from the game.
- v1.1 — 2026-10-04 — The game is free; Section 3 sets out the rules paid cosmetics would follow if they appear: no effect on strength, no monetary value or cash-out, refunds under the general billing rules.
- v1.0 — 2026-10-04 — First publication.
