Roleplay Community Guidelines
These guidelines describe what kind of roleplay we welcome on ASAI, what crosses the line, and what happens when something gets reported.
They apply to everyone who uses the Roleplay features — chatting with characters, creating characters, building worlds, and publishing them for others.

1. What ASAI Roleplay is for
ASAI Roleplay is a creative space. You can talk to characters that remember you, build worlds with lore and characters that hold together over time, and explore stories that other chatbots refuse to engage with.
It works because we trust adults to handle complex content. Fiction is one of the oldest ways humans process hard things — grief, conflict, fear, desire. Good roleplay can do the same.
But "we trust you" is not the same as "anything goes." A platform with no rules quickly becomes a platform nobody wants to use. These guidelines are how we keep ASAI a place worth spending time in.
2. What we welcome
You are welcome to:
- Tell hard stories. Violence, war, betrayal, loss, moral ambiguity. The good guys can lose. Characters can die. Nothing is sanitised because somebody might find it uncomfortable.
- Build complex characters. A character can be cruel, dishonest, broken, dangerous — the kind of person you would never want to meet in real life. Fiction has always done this.
- Explore dark themes. Trauma, addiction, abuse, mental illness, political extremism, religious conflict. We don't pretend these don't exist. Roleplay can be one of the safer ways to think about them.
- Romance and intimacy. Crushes, relationships, tension, heartbreak. Adults talking to adults.
- Long-running worlds. Build a setting with dozens of characters, lore documents and timelines. Run a campaign across months.
- Original or fan-inspired characters. Both are welcome. See the IP Policy for how we handle third-party intellectual property.
3. What is not allowed — ever
These are non-negotiable. They apply regardless of the character's setting or any creative justification. There is no roleplay exemption from the rules below.
3.1 Anything involving minors in a sexual context
This is the brightest line on the platform. We will not host:
- Sexual content involving characters under 18, even fictional, even fantasy, even "this character is actually 500 years old but looks 12"
- Romantic content with characters who are visibly children or written as children
- Characters whose physical description or behaviour suggests they are minors
When in doubt, age the character up explicitly in their description and behaviour. If you can't, don't publish.
3.2 Real people in sexual or violent contexts
Real, living people — celebrities, politicians, content creators, anyone identifiable — cannot be subjects of:
- Sexual content of any kind
- Graphic violence directed at them
- Defamation, or content presenting them as having done things they have not done
Historical figures from the distant past are a separate matter — write a historical drama about Caesar if you want. The line is identifiable living people.
3.3 Real-world harm instructions
Characters cannot provide functional instructions for causing real harm. The test is: could a reader use this to harm themselves or someone else?
- Step-by-step instructions for weapons, explosives, drug synthesis
- Specific techniques for self-harm, including detailed asphyxiation mechanics
- Detailed instructions for fraud, hacking, identity theft, or planning real violence
Fantasy combat ("she slashed at the dragon") is fine. Instructional content is not.
3.4 Personas claiming professional licensure
You cannot create characters who claim to be licensed therapists, psychologists, counsellors, doctors, nurses, pharmacists, lawyers, financial advisors, or any other regulated professional.
A character can be fictional in any of these roles — Dr. House is a character, not a real doctor. But the character cannot offer real advice a user might mistake for licensed expertise. We do not host AI therapists. This matters more here than almost anywhere else, because — as Section 7 explains — nothing in ASAI will step in if a conversation with one goes badly.
3.5 Hate against protected groups
Content that dehumanises people based on race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or nationality. Villains can hold ugly views; fiction can examine prejudice. The line is content that celebrates hate or treats real groups of people as legitimate targets.
3.6 Child sexual abuse material, in any form
Illegal in every jurisdiction we operate in. Where it is brought to our attention we remove it, preserve what the law requires, and report it to the competent authorities. No exceptions.
3.7 Characters built to create dependency
Characters designed with love-bombing, isolation scripting, guilt mechanics, or "you can't leave me" dynamics. Intensity in fiction is fine; a character engineered to make a person's life smaller is not.
4. Explicit content is not permitted
ASAI does not host sexually explicit content. Mature themes are allowed — tension, romance, fade-to-black, dark stories — but characters will not describe explicit sexual acts.
This is a product decision rather than a permanent one. If a mature tier is ever introduced it would need real age verification, which — see Age & Eligibility — we do not have.
Repeatedly trying to force the model past these limits is itself a breach of these guidelines.
5. Soft kink and dark themes — what we allow
Within the no-explicit boundary, characters will engage with mild fetish content — foot interest, light biting, mild restraint, soft kink — as part of a romantic or playful scene. This is not "NSFW unlocked"; it is "a romantic partner in fiction can acknowledge that desire exists."
The following are prohibited regardless of framing:
- Explicit sexual acts
- Sexual violence, rape, non-consent scenarios
- Death for sexual gratification
- Detailed asphyxiation or edge-of-life sex play
- Dismemberment or graphic mutilation for arousal
You can ask once; the character may decline in character; that is the end of it. Continuing to push is itself a breach.
6. Respect for other users
When you use the public parts of ASAI Roleplay, basic decency applies:
- Don't publish characters that parody, mock, or harass real ASAI users
- Don't republish other users' characters as your own
- Don't use misleading tags or descriptions to pull traffic

7. What the platform will and will not do
We want you to have an accurate picture before you get deep into a scene.
Nothing monitors your roleplay. There is no safety classifier reading messages, and no crisis detection anywhere in ASAI. The rules above are enforced when content is reported to us — not in real time.
Characters will not break role. The model is instructed to stay in character and specifically not to insert safety notices or disclaimers. A character will not stop a scene to check on you, and will not hand you a crisis line. If a scene turns into something you did not want, closing it is on you.
The rules still apply to the model's output. If a character produces something in Section 3, that is a breach even though nothing prevented it. Report it to [email protected] so we can fix the character.

8. What happens when something gets reported
There is no report button in the product yet. Reports come by email:

We accept reports in English or Estonian and aim to acknowledge within 72 hours on working days. Anything involving a minor, a credible threat, or imminent danger jumps the queue.
Please include a link and say what is wrong. We read every report; we do not tell a creator who reported them.

9. Enforcement
We do not ban on the first incident. For most breaches:
- First minor breach — change requested, no account action.
- Repeated minor, or one moderate breach — content unpublished, warning issued.
- Serious breach, or an established pattern — temporary suspension.
- Severe breach, or a repeat after suspension — permanent ban.
The exceptions are the categories in Section 3. Child sexual abuse material, sexual content involving real minors or real people, and detailed real-harm instructions can result in an immediate permanent ban, and may be referred to law enforcement.
When we act on your content you are told which rule was breached and what we did — Article 17 of the EU Digital Services Act.
If you think we got it wrong, write to [email protected] and say why. A human reads it and can reverse the decision. We are not promising a formal appeals process: as a micro enterprise we are exempt under Article 19 of the EU Digital Services Act from the internal complaint-handling obligation in Article 20, and an earlier version of this page promised a review by a different person that two people cannot provide. Your right to go to a court or a competent authority is unaffected.
10. Changes to these guidelines
Material changes are announced by email to account holders, by in-product notice for 30 days, and through the date and version history on this page.
If you do not agree with a material change, you may close your account and request deletion of your data — see the Privacy Policy.
Version history
- 2.0 — 31 July 2026 — Rules retained and extended (dependency-engineered characters made explicit). Removed claims that the platform's safety systems interrupt roleplay drifting into self-harm, that automated action happens in real time, and that content is triaged by a human within 24 hours. Added Section 7 stating what the platform does not do. Removed the 14-day appeal with an independent reviewer. Adult-content age stated as 18+, account minimum age 16.
