Product Terms

Last updated: 2026-10-04ASAI-specific terms — plans, add-ons, how energy is metered, API access, and service availability.

Product Terms

This document covers the commercial and operational terms specific to ASAI: which plans exist, how usage is measured, how the API works, and what happens if an account is suspended.

For how roleplay itself works — characters, worlds, scenes and what happens to them when you publish — see Roleplay: how it works, Worlds & Characters and Ownership & Licence.

It supplements the company-wide Terms of Service. Where this document is silent, the Terms apply. Where this document is more specific, this document applies.

Effective: 4 October 2026 · Version: 2.4

1. Plans

ASAI has three plans. Prices below are the standard EU prices in EUR on our website; tax is applied at checkout according to your country. Inside the iOS and Android apps, plans and energy packs are sold by the App Store or Google Play at the store's own price, which is higher than on the website.

No plan limits how many private characters and worlds you keep, and any account, including Free, can publish to the public library — see Creator Program.

1.1 Free — €0

  • Chat and scenes on ASAI Mini
  • Energy in two pools: chat, with a weekly budget and a daily brake, and roleplay, with a monthly allowance (Section 2)
  • Image generation in low quality, paid from energy
  • No API access and no deep research

1.2 Pro — €18/month or €190/year

  • Everything in Free, plus ASAI Arc in chat and in scenes
  • Substantially more energy in both pools
  • Images in medium quality by default, paid from energy
  • Deep research, a set number of runs a day
  • API access (Section 4)

1.3 Etherane — €90/month or €900/year

  • Everything in Pro, with the highest energy of the three plans and more deep research runs
  • Scenes also on Claude Sonnet and Claude Opus by Anthropic (the Prime and Max tiers)

1.4 Platform bundles

The APERTURESyndicate Standard (€30/month) and Pro (€50/month) bundles include ASAI at the Pro level and the Cast roleplay add-on alongside other platform products. The Supporter bundle does not include ASAI. See the Subscriptions page.

1.5 Roleplay add-ons

Two add-ons stack on any plan, including Free. They are mutually exclusive — you can hold one, not both. Each adds roleplay energy every month on top of your plan (Section 2.5) and opens stronger scene tiers:

  • Character · Spark — €7/month or €70/year. Scenes on ASAI Arc; images in medium quality.
  • Character · Cast — €13/month or €130/year. More roleplay energy than Spark; scenes on ASAI Arc and on Claude Sonnet by Anthropic (the Prime tier); images in medium quality.

An add-on adds roleplay energy only; it does not change your chat allowance.

1.6 What does not exist

For the avoidance of doubt, and because an earlier version of this document described them:

  • There is no pay-as-you-go billing. Nothing is charged per reply and nothing is charged after the fact. The only way to have more energy than your plan gives is an energy pack you choose to buy in advance (Section 2.8).
  • There is no Creator Credits system. Publishing characters does not earn you compute, credits, points, or money of any kind. See Creator Program.

2. How usage is measured

2.1 Energy

Everything the model writes for you is paid for by us, per token, at the price the model costs us. Rather than show you tokens or cents, we show one number: energy.

Energy is our own unit. A reply costs what it actually cost us to produce, converted into energy at a fixed rate; where the exact cost cannot be measured — a reply cut off midway, for example — it is estimated. That means a short question on the small model takes a sip; a long scene on Claude Opus takes a gulp. Nothing is multiplied by a made-up factor.

Reading old messages, scrolling, editing a character, browsing the library — none of that costs energy. Only generation does.

An earlier version of this document described AI-hours, per-task multipliers, and four separate pools. That system was replaced on 12 September 2026 and no longer exists anywhere in the product.

2.2 Two pools

Energy comes in two independent pools. Spending one never touches the other.

PoolWindowsResets
Chata week, which is your real allowance, and a day, a brake so one evening cannot eat the weekthe week at the start of the ISO week (Monday, 00:00 UTC); the day daily at 00:00 UTC
Roleplayone calendar month, with no daily brake — scenes come in long eveningson the 1st of each month, 00:00 UTC

A reply is refused when the window it needs is exhausted, until that window resets. Nothing carries over into the next window.

If a payment fails and your subscription falls into arrears, both pools are halved until it is resolved.

On a day when overall usage of ASAI passes a safety limit, the Free plan pauses until 00:00 UTC. Paid ASAI plans (Pro, Etherane and the Standard and Pro bundles) and energy you bought keep working.

2.3 What spends it

Everything generated on our models and on our provider accounts, including work you did not ask for by name.

From the chat pool: replies in chat; requests through the API (Section 4); dictation and reading replies aloud; tasks you schedule ASAI to run; images you ask for in chat; small background jobs such as naming a chat or compressing memory.

From the roleplay pool: scene turns, including the second, hidden model call a scene makes to decide what happens before it is written; and the work scenes need around them — folding a long scene into its chronicle, translating a scenario's opening, summarising a world, writing character schedules, tightening a card, drawing character portraits and sprites.

Two things do not spend it: anything generated on your own API key (Settings → Roleplay → your own model — you pay your provider directly), and anything that never reaches a model.

2.4 The one counter that is not energy

Deep research runs are a separate daily count, because one run is many searches and reads rather than one reply.

Images used to have a monthly count of their own. Since 28 September 2026 they are paid from energy like any other generation, and your plan decides their quality.

2.5 Add-ons add roleplay energy

The roleplay add-ons in Section 1.5 add energy to the roleplay pool on top of your plan, every month. They do not add to the chat pool.

2.6 Where to find your numbers

The exact grant for your plan, and what you have spent in the current day, week and month, are in Settings → Usage. We deliberately do not restate the figures here: they are tuned more often than a legal document should change, and a stale number would be worse than a pointer to the live one.

Model prices, the money-to-energy rate, and what any single reply cost us are internal. You are never billed for them.

2.7 Running out

When a window is exhausted, generation from that pool stops until it resets, unless you have energy from a pack for that pool (Section 2.8). There is no overage billing and no borrowing against the next window. You will never receive an unexpected bill from ASAI: nothing is charged that you did not choose at checkout.

2.8 Energy packs

Where the product offers them — in Settings → Billing, or when your energy runs out — you can buy a one-off energy pack for the chat pool or for the roleplay pool, as you choose at checkout. The amount of energy and the price are shown before you pay.

  • Pack energy is used only once your plan's energy in that pool is spent for the current window.
  • Unused pack energy expires after the period stated at checkout.
  • A pack is a single purchase and does not renew.
  • The energy is added straight after payment. Because you ask for it to be delivered at once, your 14-day right of withdrawal ends when it is delivered; you are asked to confirm this before you pay. See Refunds & Cancellation.

3. Billing

3.1 Payment and renewal

Billing on the website is handled by Stripe. Subscriptions renew automatically at the interval you chose until you cancel, which you can do at any time in Settings → Billing. A purchase made inside the iOS or Android app is billed by the App Store or Google Play: the store is the seller of that transaction, and you cancel it and ask for a refund in the store's own subscription settings.

3.2 Currency and tax

Prices are in EUR. VAT is applied according to Republic of Estonia (EU) rules and the rules of your country. The price shown at checkout includes all applicable tax.

3.3 Cancellation

Cancelling stops the next renewal. Your subscription runs to the end of the period you have already paid for, after which the account drops to Free. Your data is preserved and you can resubscribe at any time.

3.4 Refunds and withdrawal

Your right of withdrawal (14 days) and our refund practice are set out in one place: Refunds & Cancellation. We do not restate the conditions here, so that there is only ever one version of them.

Billing questions: [email protected]. We aim to reply within 5 business days.

3.5 Price changes

We give at least 30 days' notice before a price increase affects an existing subscriber. You can cancel before it takes effect.

4. API access

ASAI has a public HTTP API, and using it is authorised.

  • It is OpenAI-compatible at the chat-completions endpoint, so most existing OpenAI client libraries work by changing the base URL and the key.
  • Keys are created and revoked in Settings → API.
  • API usage draws on the chat pool described in Section 2 — it is not a separate allowance and it is not billed separately.
  • API access requires Pro, Etherane or the Standard or Pro bundle.
  • Rate limits, key handling and what you may build on the API are in the Developer & API Terms.

An earlier version of this document stated that programmatic access was not authorised. That was wrong; the API existed when it was written.

5. Fair use

The allowances assume normal interactive use. We may act against accounts that:

  • Resell access — sharing or selling your account or API key to third parties
  • Share credentials — one account, one person
  • Deliberately stress the service — consuming capacity without a genuine use
  • Attempt to bypass metering — evading the pools by any means

Action scales with severity: throttling, suspension, or termination.

If you have a legitimate high-volume use case, write to [email protected] and we will talk about it rather than throttle you by surprise.

6. Service availability

6.1 No SLA

We aim for high availability and we do not promise a specific uptime percentage on any plan. We have no permanent staff; the infrastructure is solid but it is not redundant everywhere.

If an outage lasts more than 24 hours and affects everyone, we may extend affected subscriptions as a goodwill measure. That is discretionary, not contractual.

6.2 Maintenance and beta features

Maintenance is done in off-peak hours where possible and announced in-product. Features labelled beta or preview may change or be withdrawn without notice, and are not grounds for a refund.

6.3 Which models

ASAI combines our own models with third-party models. Our own line is ASAI Mini and ASAI Arc. Third-party models carry their maker's name in the product: Claude Sonnet and Claude Opus by Anthropic (the Prime and Max roleplay tiers) and GPT Image by OpenAI (image generation and editing).

Who receives your data, and what they may and may not do with it, is set out in AI Data & Training and Data Processing & Subprocessors. Where a model is hosted by someone else, its availability is partly outside our control.

We improve and replace what runs under the ASAI Mini and ASAI Arc names for cost, capacity or quality reasons. A third-party model is always shown under its maker's name. If we stop offering a tier that Section 1 says a plan includes, that is a change to these terms under Section 8.

7. Suspension and termination

7.1 Grounds

We may suspend or terminate an account for breach of the Acceptable Use Policy, the Community Guidelines, or the Terms of Service; for fraud or chargeback abuse; or where a court order or sanctions regime compels us.

7.2 Effect on your subscription

Suspension does not automatically refund the subscription. If we reverse a decision, we will credit or extend the subscription to make up the lost time.

7.3 Effect on your data

During suspension, data is preserved. After permanent termination, personal data is deleted subject to the schedule in Data Retention, and your published characters and worlds are removed from the library.

You can export your data before deletion — see the Privacy Policy.

7.4 If you think we got it wrong

Write to [email protected] and tell us why. A human reads it and can reverse the decision. As a micro enterprise we are exempt under Article 19 of the EU Digital Services Act from operating a formal internal complaint-handling system, so we are not going to promise you a review board or a decision deadline — but the email is read, and decisions do get reversed. Your right to go to a court or a competent authority is unaffected; see DSA Notice & Action.

8. Changes to these terms

Material changes to commercial terms are announced at least 30 days in advance by email and in-product notice. Continued use after the effective date is acceptance. If you disagree, cancel before that date.

Version history

  • 2.4 — 4 October 2026 — Sections 1 and 3.1 say that in the iOS and Android apps plans and energy packs are sold by the App Store or Google Play at the store's price, and that such purchases are cancelled and refunded through the store.
  • 2.3 — 1 October 2026 — Plans and add-ons described by what they actually include: which model tiers each opens, image quality, deep research and API access. No plan limits the number of characters or worlds, and publishing is open to every account. Section 2 rewritten for two independent pools — chat by week and day, roleplay by calendar month — with images paid from energy, the reduced allowance during payment arrears, the Free-plan pause on high-load days, and energy packs bought in advance (Section 2.8). Section 6.3 states which models are ours (ASAI Mini, ASAI Arc) and which are third-party (Claude Sonnet and Claude Opus by Anthropic, GPT Image by OpenAI). Section 4 points to the Developer & API Terms.
  • 2.2 — 22 September 2026 — Section 2 rewritten to describe energy, the unit the product has actually metered since 12 September 2026: one pool for every text mode, a weekly budget with a daily brake, images and deep research counted separately. AI-hours, task multipliers and the four independent pools are gone. Section 1.5 corrected — add-ons do raise the allowance.
  • 2.1 — 5 September 2026 — Team description corrected: the company has no permanent staff beyond its two founders, and around twenty volunteers contribute irregularly. Response expectations are unchanged — they are still written for the two people who are always on, not for the wider group.
  • 2.0 — 31 July 2026 — Rewritten to match the product. Plans corrected to Free / Pro / Etherane with the roleplay add-ons. Replaced the "seconds of compute × 2" metering description with the actual token-based accounting and the four independent pools, including the weekly roleplay reset. Removed pay-as-you-go and Creator Credits, which do not exist. Corrected the claim that we run the models ourselves. Removed the statement that programmatic access is unauthorised — the API exists and is documented in Section 4.
  • 1.0 — 16 May 2026 — Initial publication
