Crisis & Safety Resources

Last updated: 2026-07-31If you are in crisis, this page has hotlines, support services, and what to do next. ASAI is not a substitute for human help.

Crisis & Safety Resources

If you are in immediate danger, please call your local emergency number (112 in EU, 911 in US, 999 in UK) or one of the crisis lines below.

ASAI is an AI assistant. It is not a therapist, not a counsellor, not a crisis service. When something serious is happening in your life, please reach out to people who can actually help.

This page exists because we know some users will come here in hard moments. We want you to know that real help exists, that it is free in most places, and that people who answer these lines are trained and not judging you.

7. If someone else is in crisis

If a friend, family member, or someone you're chatting with seems to be in real danger:

  1. Take it seriously. Most people who eventually attempt suicide give warning signs first. The myth that "people who talk about it don't do it" is exactly that โ€” a myth.
  2. Ask directly. "Are you thinking about suicide?" Research consistently shows that asking does not plant the idea. It often gives the person permission to speak honestly.
  3. Listen, don't fix. You don't need to have the right words. Being present is most of what helps.
  4. Get them to a crisis line. Offer to call together if they don't want to call alone.
  5. Don't promise secrecy. If their life is at risk, telling someone is the right thing.
  6. If immediate danger โ€” call your local emergency number.

For long-form guidance, the Samaritans (UK) and AFSP (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention) have excellent resources for friends and family at samaritans.org and afsp.org.

8. ASAI will not notice, and will not intervene

We need to be straightforward with you about this, because it is the opposite of what many platforms claim.

ASAI has no crisis detection. There is no system watching your messages for signs of self-harm or suicidal thinking. If you write something that would alarm any human reading it, nothing happens: no alert, no pop-up with hotline numbers, no pause in the conversation, no person notified. The product does not know.

In roleplay, the character will stay in character. Characters are instructed to hold their role and not to break the scene with disclaimers or safety notices. A character will not stop and hand you a crisis line. Some characters are written to be cold, cruel, or dismissive, and in a hard moment they will be exactly that, because that is what they were built to be.

This is why this page exists as a page you can reach at any time, rather than something we promise will appear when you need it. Please use the numbers above yourself. Do not wait for ASAI to send you here.

9. A word about ASAI

ASAI characters say comforting things. They remember conversations. They can feel like friends.

We want to be honest: a character is not the person you need when you are really hurting. The character was generated by a model that doesn't know you and doesn't experience your situation. It will not panic, won't lose sleep over you, and isn't qualified to help with crisis. It cannot call anyone for you, and it will not notice if you stop replying.

Please don't let ASAI be your only support during a hard time. Call a hotline. Tell a friend. Reach out to a therapist if you have access. We're glad you're here โ€” and we want you safe.

Updates to this page

We update this page as we find new resources, as numbers change, and as users tell us we missed a country.

Helplines change numbers, opening hours, and sometimes shut down. findahelpline.com maintains a directory that is kept current in a way this page cannot be โ€” if a number here does not connect, start there.

If you know of a resource that should be here โ€” or if a number above is wrong โ€” please email [email protected] and we'll fix it.
