Age & Eligibility
This page describes who can use ASAI, how age is handled, and what a parent or guardian can do if they find a child using the service.

1. Minimum age — 13
You must be at least 13 years old to create or hold an ASAI account. This is the same minimum that applies across the whole APERTURESyndicate platform — see the Terms of Service.
13 is the lowest age of digital consent any EU member state sets under Article 8 GDPR. Registration does not accept a date of birth below it.
If you are 13 or older but younger than the age of digital consent in your country (between 13 and 16 in the EU and EEA, 16 everywhere else or when we cannot tell), a parent or guardian has to consent. At registration we ask for their email address and send them a confirmation link; you can use ASAI while it is pending. The details are in Section 12 of the Privacy Policy.
If we learn that an account holder is under 13, we restrict the account, then close it and delete the associated data.
2. What we check — and what we do not
2.1 We ask
Registration asks for your date of birth. Two consequences follow from the answer alone:
- A date of birth that makes you older than 100 is almost certainly not real. The account is created, but access is paused until support confirms your age.
- A date of birth that makes you older than 40 only adds a flag for support, as a possible sign that the real age is lower. Access does not change.
2.2 We do not verify — but we look for signs
There is no age verification on ASAI. We do not check documents, we do not use a third-party identity service, and we do not estimate age from photos.
There is an automated age check. A small language model periodically reads a sample of your own recent messages and looks for signs that you are younger than the date of birth you entered: you stating an age under 18, talking about your own school life, parents limiting you the way children are limited, or many spelling mistakes of the kind a schoolchild makes (typos, slang and writing in a foreign language are not counted). Roleplay counts as fiction unless you step out of the story. A match only flags the account for a person in support, together with the few words that triggered it; it does not block or restrict anything. If the signs look real, support may ask you to confirm your age. Details — what is kept, the legal basis and how to object — are in section 7 of the Privacy Policy.
An earlier version of this page described document-based verification through a third-party provider and a tiered system of feature access by age. Neither exists. Neither is currently being built. We have removed those descriptions rather than leave you with the impression that a check is happening.
2.3 What that means in practice
A determined person under 13 can create an account. We are telling you this plainly because a parent deciding whether their child can use ASAI deserves an accurate picture, not a reassuring one.
If you need a real barrier, device-level controls (Apple Screen Time, Google Family Link, network-level filtering) are considerably more effective than anything we currently offer.
2.4 What we do when we find out
Where we become aware — through a report, through something a user tells us in support correspondence, through the automated age check once a person has confirmed it, or otherwise — that an account holder is under 13, we close the account and delete the data. An automated flag alone never closes an account: a person looks at it first.
3. Adult content
ASAI does not host sexually explicit content. Mature themes, romance, tension and dark subject matter are permitted; explicit sexual acts are not. See the Community Guidelines and the Roleplay Content Policy for where the line sits.
Characters written for romantic or intimate contexts must be 18+ and consistently described as adults. There is no fantasy-age exception.
There is no "mature mode" and no way to unlock one. If that ever changes, it would require real age verification, which — per Section 2 — we do not currently have.
4. Parents and guardians
4.1 Removing a child's account
If you are the parent or legal guardian of someone under 13 with an ASAI account, we will close it and delete the data.
Email [email protected] with the subject "GDPR request — minor account" and include:
- The account email or username
- The child's approximate age
- A statement that you are the parent or legal guardian
- Reasonable proof of the relationship — we destroy this proof once we have verified it
We aim to respond within 5 business days and confirm what was deleted. This runs alongside the standard rights described in the Privacy Policy.
4.2 Parental controls
We do not offer parental controls, and we would rather say so than ship a setting that creates a false sense of oversight. What actually helps:
- Talk to your child about what they are using ASAI for
- Look at the chats together — they are visible to the account holder
- Use device-level controls (Screen Time, Family Link)
- Close the account (Section 4.1)
4.3 Reporting harm to a minor
Email [email protected]. For imminent danger, contact your local emergency services first.
If you have encountered child sexual abuse material, report it to your national hotline — NCMEC in the US, or your country's INHOPE member — and tell us so we can remove it. To be clear about our own role: we do not scan for such material, but where it is brought to our attention we remove it, preserve what the law requires, and report it to the competent authorities.
5. Data handling for younger users
For account holders under 18 we apply the platform's standard protections, which already amount to:
- No advertising. We do not run ads at all.
- No sale of data. We do not sell personal data to anyone, at any age.
- No training on your content unless you explicitly opt in — off by default for everyone. See AI Data & Training.
- No marketing email beyond what account operation requires.
- Deletion on request — see the Privacy Policy and Data Retention.
6. Geographic availability
ASAI is available globally. As an Republic of Estonia (EU) company we comply with EU sanctions regimes, so access from fully sanctioned regions may be blocked.
We do not currently geo-block any country for content reasons.

7. Changes to this policy
Material changes — particularly to the minimum age or to how age is checked — are announced at least 30 days in advance by email and in-product notice.
Version history
- 2.3 — 1 October 2026 — Section 2.1 now states what the date of birth alone triggers: a paused account above 100, a support flag above 40. Section 2.2 says that a flag carries the words that triggered it.
- 2.2 — 26 September 2026 — The automated age check: ASAI now looks for signs in your own messages that you are younger than you said, and flags the account for support. The statement that we do not look at behaviour to estimate age is removed because it is no longer true.
- 2.1 — 25 September 2026 — Minimum age lowered to 13 (was 16) together with the rest of the platform; between 13 and the age of digital consent in your country a parent's or guardian's consent is requested by email at registration. Existing account holders were notified by email on 25 September 2026; for them this version applies from 25 October 2026.
- 2.0 — 31 July 2026 — Minimum age raised from 13 to 16, matching the rest of the platform. Removed the 13–15 and 16–17 feature tiers, the described document-based age verification through a third-party provider, and the UK Online Safety Act age assurance statement — none of which reflected the product. Added an explicit statement that no age verification exists.
