Locker Policy
This policy explains the Locker feature in Resonance — uploading your own audio files to storage you can play from any of your devices — and it explains the two places where a file you upload is deliberately public: your profile anthem and your profile showcase.
It applies to every Resonance user who uploads a file, and it supplements our Terms of Service. Where this policy conflicts with the general Terms of Service on a matter specific to the Locker, this policy controls.
This policy is published in good faith and is pending review by qualified EU/Estonian legal counsel; nothing here is a substitute for formal legal advice.
1. What the Locker is
The Locker lets you upload an audio file you already have to your own storage on APERTURESyndicate, so you can stream it from any device where you're signed in — your phone, another computer, and so on.
Your ordinary Locker files are private:
- A file in your Locker is visible and playable only by you, through short-lived links generated for your account alone.
- Locker tracks never appear in the Resonance catalogue, in search, in recommendations, or on anyone else's profile.
- Locker tracks are not part of the royalty system — no plays are counted, no payouts are generated, and no artist is credited for them.
- There is no public link and no discovery for them.
But two features let you publish a file on purpose, and they are public by design. If you choose a track as your profile anthem, or hang one in your profile showcase ("garland" and track slots), you are choosing to let other people play it. That is the entire point of those features. Section 3 explains exactly who can then hear it.
In short: the Locker is your own shelf, and two spots on it face the street. Nothing gets published unless you put it there.
2. You must have the right to upload
You may only upload a file if you own the rights to it, or otherwise hold a lawful right to keep a personal copy of it. Before an upload completes, you must tick a box confirming exactly this.
You must not upload content you do not have the right to — for example, copyrighted recordings you do not own and are not licensed to store. Unauthorised content is prohibited and will be removed. Uploading such content violates this policy and our Copyright & Takedown Policy.
When you confirm the rights box and upload a file, you represent and warrant that you hold the necessary rights, and we record the fact and time of that confirmation. APERTURESyndicate does not pre-screen or verify rights in uploaded files; responsibility for the legality of what you upload rests entirely with you.
Publishing a file as your anthem or in your showcase makes this more serious, not less: you are making it playable by other people, so you need the right to do that.
3. What is public, and to whom
This is the part most people miss, so we are stating it plainly.
Your profile anthem
You can set one track as your profile anthem. Anyone who can open your profile can play it, including people who are not signed in to Resonance at all. The app asks you to confirm this before it sets an anthem, and warns you again if the track is one of your own local files — because in that case the audio is uploaded to our storage so that visitors to your profile can hear it.
Your profile showcase
The showcase — your garland and your track slots — works the same way. Anything you hang there can be played by anyone who can open your profile. Before you publish a showcase containing your own files, the app requires you to tick a box acknowledging exactly this. Local tracks you place there are uploaded so guests can hear them; take a track out of the showcase and its uploaded copy is deleted.
The showcase can hold an ordinary Locker track too — not just a special free slot. If you put one there, that file becomes publicly playable for as long as it stays in the showcase.
What limits this
- If you hide your profile in Settings → Privacy, only you and your mutual friends can reach your profile, and therefore your anthem and showcase.
- If you switch your favourite track off in your privacy settings, your anthem and garland stop being served to other people.
- Playback links handed to visitors are time-limited, but they are ordinary links: within their lifetime they work for whoever holds them, and a determined listener can save the audio. Treat anything you publish here as something you have handed out.
What does not belong here
Do not use these features for voice notes, recordings of other people, private messages, or anything you would not hand to a stranger. The app says this too. Once you publish something to a public profile, we cannot un-hear it for the people who already played it.
4. How it works
- In Settings → Local Tracks, under "Upload to your Resonance", you choose an audio file from your device. Uploading requires an active paid plan.
- You tick the box confirming you have the right to upload it. Until you do, the upload button stays disabled.
- The file is uploaded to APERTURESyndicate's private storage, under a location tied to your account.
- The track then appears in your library, marked as private, and streams to any device where you're signed in.
- Separately, you can choose a track as your anthem or add one to your showcase — with the confirmations described in Section 3. That is the only way a file becomes public.
You can remove a Locker track at any time. Removal deletes the stored file from our servers and takes the track out of your library.
5. What each plan gets, and what a lapsed plan keeps

Your anthem slot and your showcase slots do not count toward those allowances — they are free slots, available without a Locker subscription, subject to the same 50 MB per-file limit. Showcase slots unlock through your listening streak rather than by paying.
If your paid period ends:
- You cannot upload new files.
- You can still see your files, and you can still delete them. Access to your own data, and the ability to erase it, never depends on paying us.
- Playing an ordinary Locker track back from the cloud requires an active plan again.
- Your anthem and showcase keep working, for you and for your profile's visitors.
- Nothing is deleted because a plan ended.

6. What the Locker is not
- Not a distribution channel. Aside from the anthem and showcase described above, there is no search, no public link, and no way for another person to reach your files.
- Not part of the catalogue or royalties. Locker plays never count toward stream totals, charts, recommendations, or payouts — including plays of your public anthem or showcase.
- Not a piracy tool. APERTURESyndicate may suspend accounts that use the Locker to store or circulate infringing content, including attempts to disguise a distribution scheme as personal storage, or to use the anthem and showcase slots as a way of publishing music that belongs to someone else.
- Not guaranteed cold storage. Keep your own original copies; the Locker is a convenience for playback across your devices, not a substitute for your own backups.
7. Enforcement
Violations of this policy — including uploading content you have no right to, publishing such content through the anthem or showcase, or using the Locker to circumvent the catalogue and royalty rules — are handled under the same enforcement principles as our Copyright & Takedown Policy, and may result in removal of the offending files, temporary suspension, or permanent account termination.
Where required by law, or in response to a valid legal request from a rightsholder or authority, we may disclose records relating to an account's use of the Locker, including upload metadata and rights-confirmation records.

This policy is governed by the laws of Estonia, with the courts of Tallinn having jurisdiction, and is subject to the GDPR, the EU Digital Services Act, and applicable Estonian and EU consumer-protection law. The English-language version of this policy is the controlling version.
Version history
- v2.0 — 2026-07-31 — Corrected the central claim. The previous version said Locker files are reachable by nobody but you; in fact your profile anthem and showcase tracks are served to anyone who can open your profile, including signed-out visitors. That is a deliberate feature, the app now warns you before you use it, and Section 3 describes it honestly. Also: viewing and deleting your own files no longer requires a subscription; clarified that uploads do, and that playback of ordinary Locker tracks does; documented the free anthem and showcase slots that sit outside the storage allowance.
