ASInstaller Terms

These Terms govern your use of ASInstaller (the "Launcher"), the desktop application of the APERTURESyndicate platform operated by APERTURESyndicate OÜ (registry code 17384111, VAT EE102972654), Priisle tee 8, Lasnamäe linnaosa, Tallinn, Harju maakond, 13914, Estonia.
They supplement, and do not replace, the Terms of Service, Privacy Policy and Acceptable Use Policy. As a product-specific document they sit below the platform-wide ones: they can add detail or impose a stricter rule, but where they appear to conflict with a platform-level document, the platform-level document controls (Section 3 of the Terms of Service).
You accept these Terms by accepting the Terms of Service — creating a APERTURESyndicate account accepts every product document with it. Installing or running the Launcher without an account also means you accept them.
We write these documents in good faith and keep them accurate to how the software actually works. They have not yet been reviewed by qualified Estonian legal counsel.
1. What ASInstaller is
ASInstaller is a launcher and package installer for Windows. It does four things:

It is free. It is not required in order to use any of our services — every application it installs can also be downloaded and installed on its own.
Windows only. There is no macOS or Linux build today. Where these Terms
mention the registry or %APPDATA%, that is Windows-specific by nature.
2. What it scans on your computer, and what leaves it
This is the part people care about, so it is stated precisely.
What it reads. To build your library, the Launcher reads, locally:
- the Windows uninstall registry keys (
HKLMandHKCU) — the same list that "Apps & features" shows; - Steam's local app manifests (
.acffiles) and GOG's install records; - a set of well-known install directories (Program Files,
%APPDATA%,%LOCALAPPDATA%, your Steam library folders) matched against a catalogue of known applications.
It reads installation records and paths. It does not read the contents of your files, your documents, or anything inside the applications it finds.
Where the result is stored. In your own user profile, under
%APPDATA%\asinstaller\. Your library, your customisations (artwork, names,
hidden entries) and the cached catalogue live there as local files.
What is sent to us: your library is not. The Launcher does not upload the list of applications installed on your computer, does not report which applications you launch, and does not send us usage telemetry about them. That list stays on your machine.
What the Launcher does fetch from us, and therefore what our servers see as ordinary web requests (IP address, time, requested file — see the Privacy Policy):
- the detection catalogue and the store listing, as static files;
- artwork and sounds for library entries, as static files;
- update manifests and, when you update, the package itself;
- if you sign in — and signing in is optional — your account and entitlement information from APERTURESyndicate SSO, so paid applications know what you are entitled to.
Signing in is optional. The library, detection and launching all work signed out. An account is needed only for applications that require one themselves.
3. Applications that are not ours
The library will list software published by other people — Steam games, GOG titles, any application you installed yourself.
We do not supply, licence, endorse, support or take responsibility for that software. Listing an application in your library gives you no rights in it, and launching it through ASInstaller changes nothing about your relationship with its publisher: their licence, their terms, their support. Artwork we show for a third-party application is a convenience label for your own library, not a claim of any right in that application or its trademarks.
If an application does not start, or starts and misbehaves, that is between you and whoever made it. What we are responsible for is the Launcher itself.
4. Installing packages
Our desktop applications are distributed as .asins packages, downloaded
from the built-in store.
- A store entry may carry a SHA-256 checksum, and where it does, the download is verified against it before installation. This protects against a corrupted or truncated download.
- A package may be password-protected, in which case you need the password to install it.
- Installation writes files into the location you choose and may create shortcuts and registry entries so Windows knows the application exists.
Only install packages you obtained from us. The Launcher can open a .asins
file from your disk, and a package is an executable payload: a package from an
untrusted source can do anything an installer can do. We check integrity against
a checksum we published; we do not, and cannot, vet a file that did not come
from our store.
5. Updates
The Launcher updates itself. It checks for a newer version, and — depending on the setting you choose — either installs the update or tells you one is available. Updates can include fixes, changes to features and removals.
It also updates the applications it installed. Same principle.
You can turn automatic installation off in the Launcher's settings; update checks themselves are part of how the product stays secure and are not separately switchable. Running a version you have refused to update is your choice, and we do not guarantee that an old version keeps working against our services.
6. Your licence to use the Launcher
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use ASInstaller on computers you control, for as long as these Terms are in force.
You may not: sell, rent or sublicense the Launcher; reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble it, except to the extent that mandatory law expressly permits it regardless of contract; remove or alter our notices, branding or attribution; distribute modified builds; or use it to distribute software you have no right to distribute.
Open-source components shipped with the Launcher stay under their own licences, which take precedence over this Section for those components.
7. Uninstalling
Uninstall the Launcher from Windows the way you uninstall anything else.
Uninstalling the Launcher does not remove the applications it installed —
those are separate programs and are uninstalled separately. Your local library
data under %APPDATA%\asinstaller\ may remain after uninstalling; delete that
folder if you want it gone.
8. Availability, changes and withdrawal
The Launcher is provided "as is" and "as available". We may change, add or remove features, change the store listing, stop distributing a particular application, or discontinue the Launcher entirely. Where a change materially reduces what a paid plan gives you, Section 14 of the Terms of Service applies.
We do not warrant that the Launcher will be uninterrupted or error-free, that it will detect every application on your computer, or that a detected application will launch correctly.
This does not affect the mandatory statutory rights of consumers under Estonia and EU law, or the conformity rights in Section 15 of the Terms of Service.
9. Liability
Section 15 of the Terms of Service applies in full, including the limits and everything that is never excluded from them.
Specific to a desktop application: keep your own backups. The Launcher writes to your file system when it installs, updates and removes software. We are not liable for data you lose that a backup would have preserved, to the extent the law permits us to say so.
10. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or withdraw your access to the store and to updates where you breach these Terms or the Acceptable Use Policy — for example by redistributing packages, tampering with the update channel, or using the Launcher to distribute software you have no right to distribute. Section 11 of the Terms of Service covers the process and your right to a statement of reasons.
You end this licence by uninstalling the Launcher.
11. Governing law
These Terms, and any dispute about the Launcher, are governed by the law of Estonia, subject to the mandatory consumer-protection law of your country of residence in the EU where that applies. the courts of Tallinn have jurisdiction, without prejudice to any non-waivable right you have to bring proceedings where you live.
The English version is the controlling version; any translation is for convenience.
